Other than subatomic particles, few things leave our galaxy. However, new research shows that runaway planets exist as well, with some of them hightailing it up to 30 million miles per hour out of the milky way. These "runaway planets," or hyper-velocity planets are created when a double star system travels too close to the super-massive black hole at the center of the galaxy. One star is sucked into the black hole while strong gravitational forces send the other away at high speeds. These stars can actually exit the galaxy and travel alone through space.
